Flights to Tel Aviv
Introduction to Israel
Israel is only a 73 years old country, but it has a far deeper history; from Abraham and David to Jesus and Mariah, they have all been hanging out around this little spot. If you plan to come and see what the buzz is all about, then be ready for a perfect time.
Besides its remarkable history, this place is characterized for its beautiful sights, fun activities, excellent restaurants, lovely beaches, and party people. Instead of being a mountaintop person or liking the desert and the beach more, you can have it all here, even in one day, if you wish.
Things you must do in Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv is the busiest city in Israel, with over 1 million people. Everything happens here, and you must dedicate at least a few days to having a real Tel Aviv experience when you are around.
Here are the top things you must do when you are in the city:
Go on a Segway city tour – if you’d like to get to know the city in the best way, you need to show yourself where everything is, and what better way of doing that other than on a Segway? We’d recommend you’d take the tour on your first day in the city so that you can understand it and what it has to offer to you better, and later decide where you’d rather spend the rest of your time here.
Visit one of the many Museums – Tel Aviv has many fascinating museums to offer. If you’d like to learn more about the Israeli culture and arts, you need to visit one (or all) of them.
Explore Old Jaffa – Jaffa is a beautiful port city with more than 3000 years of history. Tel Aviv would have never existed without Jaffa. Suppose you want to experience an authentic historic place with a unique vibe. In that case, you must explore Old Jaffa and enjoy its magic for a while.
Go to the beach – Tel Aviv probably wouldn’t have been many favorites without its magical urban beaches. The city is located on a long accessible beach shore. It would help if you found some time to relax there when you’re here. All the beaches are equipped with lifeguards, chairs, sunbeds, sun umbrellas, water bottles you can buy and some with excellent restaurants. Whatever season you’ll visit, the beach is always a fun activity when you’re here.
Visit the Yarkon Park – Park Hayarkon is a beautiful green oasis in the city, and the place to go for a picnic, biking, running, climbing (yes, there’s a climbing wall). Not far from it is Tel Aviv’s Port – called Namal Tel Aviv – which is a fantastic place to visit, with a boardwalk, restaurants, cafés, art galleries, and much more. We’d recommend you take some time to bike around both places.
Visit the Carmel Market – if you like lively market vibes, the Carmel Market is the place for you. At the center of the city, near the beach, this market is alive and offers an unforgettable culinary experience. From unique spices shops to oriental food boutique restaurants, this market is colorful and diverse with the knowledge it has to offer to people who come to visit it.
Go on a pub crawl – another activity we’d recommend doing on your first day in the city is a pub crawl. Tel Aviv has a vibrant and lively nightlife every day of the week, and it’s mostly tough to choose where to go out. A great way of learning about the city’s nightlife is going on a pub crawl, where you can stroll along the different bars and explore the best of them all at once. We’re also sure that you’d meet many incredible people along this crawl, which whom you could end up spending the rest of your time in the city.
Things you must do in Jerusalem.
While Tel Aviv is more of a modern city, where its history isn’t the most exciting, Jerusalem is relatively modern. Still, its history draws people, with different religions and cultures from all around the world, to it.
Here are the top things you must do when you visit this holy city:
- Place a prayer on the western wall – the city’s most iconic place is the western wall. The wall was built around 2000 years ago as an outer wall to support Temple Mount; when the temple was destroyed in AD 70, Jews were forced to leave, and the temple’s exact location was lost. When they got back, they avoided the Temple Mount for fear of accidentally stepping on the Holy of Holies – the ancient inner sanctum of the temple, which was accessible only to high priests. So, they began praying at the outer wall.
Due to its history, this is one of the holiest places for Jewish people. But even if you are not Jewish or religious in any way, this is a place you’d like to experience. The size of the bricks of the wall (which is unknown until these days how it was possible to place them one on top of the other, in those times technological methods), its height, the energy of all the people that gather to pray around it, is a feeling that can’t be described in words. When you’re around, come and check it out, bring a note and a pen, and when you’re there, write something for god and place it in one of the wall’s gaps. It is believed that our prayers are heard better from this site.
- Visit the Temple Mount – seen as the holiest site for Jewish believers, parts of the four walls surrounding the Temple Mount date back to the time of the Second Jewish Temple, in the first century BCE. The walls were built around the summit of Mount Moriah. Biblically, this is where Abraham offered his son Isaac as a sacrifice. For Muslims, on the other hand, it is the third holiest site after Mecca and Medina. In Muslim tradition, this is where the Prophet Mohammed made his “Night Journey” to the throne of God. When the Muslims conquered Jerusalem in the seventh century, they built the Dome of the Rock. It is the gold-topped Islamic shrine seen in many iconic photographs of the Old City, next to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Today, within the area of the Temple Mount, there are about 100 different structures to see spanning different periods, including prayer locations, arches, and fountains. So it would help if you visited here. Please make sure to learn the site’s rules before you go.
- Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre – This is one of Christianity’s holiest and unique sites. Located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, the church is home to two of the most sacred places in Christianity – the site where Jesus was crucified, known as Calvary, and the tomb where Jesus was buried and then resurrected. Today, the tomb is enclosed by a shrine called the Aedicula. The final four Stations of the Cross, or Via Dolorosa, are also located inside the church. You must see and experience this place when you’re in Jerusalem.
- Get lost in the Old City’s market – it is impossible to stay apathetic to the Old City alleys’ magic. The structure, the old stones, the people, and the authentic smells are the components for an unforgettable magical oriental time you’ll have there. We recommend you take the time to get lost in those streets, explore the different shops and food stands, be sure you’ll have unforgettable moments when you’re there.
- Walk along the city walls – The Ramparts Walk in the Old City of Jerusalem is a gem. The Ramparts Walk one of the most exciting activities in history, beauty, and a greater sense of the Old City. This Walk makes a great trip you’ll never want to miss in the Old City.
- Visit Ein Kerem neighborhood – after spending some time in the old city, it’s time for you to get out and explore a place with a different vibe. Ein Karem is a perfect place for you to have some more relaxed time in the city. Ein Karem is a neighborhood on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The place has been inhabited since the Canaanite period. Between the 14th century and the War of Independence, it was an Arab village where during the war was abandoned. New immigrants settled in the empty houses, and as part of the expansion of Jerusalem, the town was declared as a neighborhood of the city. Even today, it still has rural characteristics due to its relative detachment from the city and being surrounded by mountains, valleys, and forests. Ein Kerem is also considered a sacred place for Christianity and a pilgrimage site for pilgrims. It is known as the birthplace of John the Baptist. There are several churches and monasteries there too. We recommend you take some time to explore this magical neighborhood, for all it has to offer, from excellent restaurants and cafes to rural nature and beautiful churches.
- Visit Mahane Yehuda Market – This colorful market is one of the most fantastic places to visit in Israel. The range of foods, vegetables, beverages, and excellent restaurants is enormous. The market is alive from 8 am to 7 pm, and we highly recommend you visit during these times. We also recommend you come back during the night to experience the fabulous authentic bars and restaurants scattered around this lovely market.
- Visit ‘Yad Vashem’ museum – is Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is dedicated to preserving the memory of the Jews who were murdered during these horrible times. It is located on the Mount of Remembrance and overlooks the pastoral landscape of the Jerusalem mountains. The site covers acres of trees and paths that lead to museums, exhibitions, monuments, sculptures, memorial sites, and the world’s leading documentation, research, and education centers. Thousands of visitors visit the museum every day and study the history of the Holocaust from a unique Jewish perspective, emphasizing the personal stories of the victims. The combination of all the private means of expression displayed in the museum – personal diaries, photographs, artifacts, video testimonies, and more, allows the visitor to absorb the wealth of information through a multidimensional sensory experience and be exposed to the daily struggle of the Jews. Admission to Yad Vashem is free and with advance registration.
